Chronos Energy are working with a UK based cleantech business who design solar, heat and power technology systems for large commercial and industrial clients. We are looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work on projects in the UK an overseas. The role can be mainly remote but ideally the chosen candidate can get to the office in the South East once a week or bi-weekly.

The successful candidate will work within a small team and be responsible for the design of projects from conception to completion, drawing in external engineers from mechanical, structural and other disciplines as required. They will prepare costed designs of renewable heat and power systems, including SLDs & wiring schematics for control systems, key component sizing and selection, electrical load schedules, specifications, CAD design. They will pay close attention to the health and safety aspects of the design and will be able to support more junior members of the team.

The senior EC&I design engineer will also produce reports, participate in client meetings, and engage construction partners to develop projects for costing and estimating.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop electrical designs from initial concept through to construction level of design detail

  • Manage the design specification for control panels with our respective supply chain

  • Grow a small team of electrical & controls design engineers as part of the wider design team development

  • Support the development of junior engineers

  • Work alongside other disciplines including architects, mechanical engineers, structural etc.

  • Work to and uphold the highest health and safety standards through CDM regulations, including other local regulations and standards depending on project geography

  • Present to clients, delivery partners and other stakeholders, within the UK and internationally

  • Feedback to product and software teams to propose product improvements that can improve system performance and better fulfil client needs

  • Work closely with commercial team to provide technical support and promote deal flow

  • Continuously work to develop and improve internal design processes

Person Specification:

  • 5-7 years + experience as an EC&I design engineering-based role

  • Confident producing designs up to RIBA stage 4 through to construction

  • Knowledge of standards and regulations for LV (essential) systems and HV (desirable) including 18th Edition wiring regulations & BS 7671

  • Knowledge and understanding of control systems for industrial and HVAC plant/equipment (BMS/PLC/SCADA)

  • Produce cable specifications Inc cable sizing

  • Experience in engineering drawing and design tools (e.g. Auto CAD Amtech)

  • Experience with power generation equipment

  • Experience in HVAC and/building services/industrial processes, including heat pumps/chillers/boiler plant/CHPs

  • Experience working with clients, architects, other engineering disciplines and construction companies

  • Able to support throughout project commissioning and testing phases during construction

  • Able to work in both project delivery and internal R&D

  • Desirable: Experience in solar or other renewables

  • Electrical engineering degree or equivalent qualification (HND)

  • Be a Chartered Engineer or currently working towards completion with recognised engineering institution
